about flag 26
There is no pride like Cleveland pride. So, why shouldn’t the new Cleveland flag feature a lion?
For that matter, why isn’t there a lion-themed sports franchise called the Cleveland Pride?
Cleveland flag design 26 features a white lion holding a gold six-point star on a blue field. Three vertical alternating red and white stripes run from the flag’s lower to upper left.
Starting from the flag’s left, the three vertical stripes represent Cleveland’s west side, downtown and east sides. The three stripes also reference Cleveland’s past present and future.
The lion is a symbol of pride. Few cities can boast as much hometown pride as Cleveland can. The lion stretches out its paw to grasp a six-point star. This is symbolic of Cleveland’s continued change and growth since its days as one of the country’s foremost steel producers. The star’s six points reference Cleveland’s Sixth City nickname. The six points also refer to the six strings on a guitar, a tribute to Cleveland’s title as the Home of Rock and Roll.
Red stands for integrity. White stands for pride. Blue stands for community. Gold stands for progress.
