about flag 25
The 25th Cleveland flag design re-examines and modernizes the city’s current tricolor flag. The flag redesign retains the classic red, white and blue color scheme.
At the flag’s left, a white field is bisected by a red vertical stripe. The remainder of the flag is a large, square blue field with three eight-point white stars.
The three eight-point white stars, each a navigational compass, point to the four cardinal (north, south, east and west) and four ordinal (northeast, northwest, southeast and southwest) directions. The compass stars honor Cleveland’s maritime history. Just as ships chart their course across the waves of Lake Erie, city and community leadership must guide the city of Cleveland to a better tomorrow. The compass stars represent direction, perseverance and hope, important themes for the city’s continued progress and prosperity. The three stars also embody Cleveland’s past, present and future.
The left white field represents Cleveland’s west side. The right white field represents Cleveland’s east side. The red stripe between the white fields is for downtown Cleveland.
White stands for community, blue stands for pride and red stands for integrity.
The 25th Cleveland flag design has an alternate color scheme. Compare this Cleveland flag design to other Ohio flags.
