When hung vertically, the white star appears in the traditional orientation and the flag’s blue field reads as a vibrant blue sky over red land. The new flag of Cleveland is horizontally divided into two fields: orange on top and blue below. Each field is divided into five rays which radiate from the white star in the flag’s center. The rays in the top field are bright yellow-orange and a light blue in the bottom field.
The yellow-orange field represents energy. The blue field is for loyalty. The white star immersed in both fields stands for Cleveland’s future. Viewed together, the flag can be interpreted as a new day breaking over the waters of Lake Erie. This represents the dawn of a new era of progress and prosperity for Cleveland.
